A To Z Challenge: Sword Art Online "A Tender Feeling"

For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.

You thought I was going to do Star Wars today, didn't you? Psych! :D

A fairly recent discovery, Sword Art Online is an Anime that follows the adventures of near-future gamers who are neurologically linked to a Massively Multiplayer Online game (MMO) and can't log out. Any attempt to free themselves from the game, they die. Die in the virtual world, you die in real life. The only way to survive is to defeat the game. How's that for a high-stakes plot? I'm ten episodes into it now, so hopefully the rest is just as good. The chemistry is killer! Enjoy this track from Kajiura Yuki.

There will be a new track tomorrow. Thank you for stopping by!

I'm David, and don't forget to bring your teleportation crystals.

  2. I wonder if my boys have seen this show? I will have to ask them:) Sounds like it would make a great novel!

  5. I love the idea of this game! I agree with Ilima that it would make a great story. The music is indeed beautiful. I always love piano and violin. But I also would've enjoyed the Star Wars theme. ;)

  6. I'm a gamer, but I'm not that hardcore. I would definitely opt out of that game before it started. :)

  10. Goodness. That's not the type of storyline I'd picture for this piece. Interesting. I found a similar piece from anime not too long ago that was very moving, but definitely didn't seem to reflect the subject of the movie. A different culture, eh?

  13. Heh. Star Wars was the obvious choice. Way to subvert expectations.

    Another good selection!

  18. Wow. That is an original story premise. Linked to the game and must defeat it to live IRL. No little stakes in that show. It's all or nothing.

For a show that is all life and death this song is very peaceful. Not what I expected, but I like it!

  20. Hmm this sounds interesting. Never heard of this anime before, but it's been a long time since watching anything new (or old for that matter). When you give the synopsis, I'm reminded of .hack anime/games. I've never seen or played either of them, so I'm not exactly sure if they are similar beyond the whole "game" aspect.

    I like this piece.

Someone mentioned it being on Netflix, so if that's Instant streaming I may check it out.

  21. Also, I really did think you were going to do Star Wars, although doing so in part earlier in the challenge, but I was REALLY hoping you would highlight a piece from Shawshank Redemption!
