A To Z Challenge: Jurassic Park "Journey to the Island"

For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.

Dude! Mr. Williams, we're not even halfway through the challenge and you're here for the third time (give others a chance, wouldja?). I had to pick Jurassic Park for today (I was totally obsessed with this movie --what eleven-year-old boy wasn't?). I often turn to this track when I, or one of my characters, is in need of adventure and wonder.

There will be a new track tomorrow. Thank you for stopping by!

I'm David, and where's my can of cryogenic shaving cream?

  1. John Williams rules! I have sort of a greatest hits album of his scores; they're all pretty awesome.

  2. He's my son's favorite composer, and many of his soundtracks are epic. He's a little heavy on the brass for my tastes, but otherwise I totally approve.

  3. I love re-reading the book now that I have the soundtrack in my head! So good.

  4. Lovely music to coordinate with running from the dinosaurs. I don't think I'd be so eager to visit an island (no where to run to) with reptilian things bigger than me on them. I'm ok with virtual, though.

  5. Mr. Wiiliam has been nominated for more Oscars than any other composer -- and with good reasons. The Jurrassic score catches the sense of hope and adventure that the Park's creator possessed. Love the side-mirror scene.

  6. Can you believe I've never seen Jurassic Park? I think it was just too scary when I was little and I've just never gotten around to watching it.

  7. I was obsessed with this movie too. :) It's impossible to hear this music and not think of Jurassic Park.

  8. It almost seems like John Williams has done more great soundtracks than one can count.

  10. This is one beautiful score... I saw it a few times, but never obsessed. But then again, I wasn't eleven when it came out... LOL.

    Fantastic choice Sir David!

  11. I think we should take bets on how many times he's going to show up, total!! I'd guess at least twice more... But it's totally well deserved. I love this soundtrack.

  13. Between John Williams and Howard Shore, that's most of the great movie scores covered.... A few from Danny Elfman of course, and my own favorite, Mychael Danna.....

  17. The soundtrack to the film is one of those that stays with you. John Williams is such a genius in this way.

  18. I am going to confess that I have never seen this movie... ahem. I am just not in favor of being scared half to death. The idea of being trapped with dinosaurs gave me the heebie jeebies.

However, I like this song very much. The wonder in it appeals to me very much. I don't imagine people running from dinosaurs. Instead, I can imagine them exploring a cavern and finding a treasure. They could have used this music in Indiana Jones and it would have worked very well... IMHO. :D

  22. The movie was awesome, and the effects quite something. Loved the music too. Memorable. The type you hear a few notes and you know exactly what it is.

  24. Great movie, great score. Definitely gives you a rush. My kids wrote alternate lyrics to the main theme: I love dinosaurs, they live out of doors, they are big and green and stinky. I love dinosaurs, some can open door, so you'd better run when you hear one.

  25. Gosh I love Jurassic Park. You can't speak in past tense here - it's still a classic!

Did you see the Jurassic Park with cats version? I love that. :D

  31. Nothing wrong with more Williams! I was really into Jurassic Park myself. My grandmother has never seen it, and I'm hoping to change that soon! I wonder how that 4th movie is doing. It's been in limbo for some time.
