A To Z Challenge: Independence Day "End Titles"

For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.

Often considered Roland Emmerich's best film (and David Arnold's best score), Independence Day took the concept of alien invasion to a new level with 15 mile-wide ships that can wipe out a metropolis in a single blow. It demonstrated how powerful the human race can be if we would unite ourselves to a common purpose. How about it, folks?

There will be a new track tomorrow. Thank you for stopping by!

I'm David, and "that's what I call a close encounter ..."

  1. Patriotic piece.
And then they brought us Godzilla, and it was all downhill from there...

  2. I saw this movie about 8 times in the first two weeks it was out on tape. Seriously. I think I have the the thing memorized. It's the only thing everyone was watching, and I sit back and start quoting lines while everyone enjoyed it for the first time. It does have an excellent sound track though.

  4. If the world would unite in a common purpose how powerful we would be. Great film, 'welcome to Earth', always makes me laugh.

  5. Hi David - yes if the world would unite in a compassionate, caring, considerate way .. life would be bliss and so much easier. I never say Independence Day - I thought about it though .. cheers Hilary

  6. I love Independence Day! I can recite nearly the whole thing word for word. haha

Maybe we need an alien invasion to unite us . . . although I wouldn't want 15 mile-wide ships to wipe us out. Eek! :P

  7. I just got chills. You know how some people have a favorite blanket? My husband Jim puts this film on every single night when it is time for us to go to sleep. Or when HE thinks it is time for us to go to sleep. !!! When it is over, he wakes up and turns it on again. This goes on all night long. It has been around 7-8 years now...I loved this movie for years ... but now? It is as if it is a part of my total LIFE. I know all the music and think it contributes greatly...except: wow are the credits long at the end!!! :)

  12. I still love this movie to this day! I think it falls under that category of being able to watch it at any time. I also reference this movie a lot. To me, it's a classic!

Oddly enough, I've barely paid much attention to the soundtrack, and back in the day that is about all I would buy. Movie soundtracks.

    Thanks for sharing this!

  19. As a movie, Independence Day is, shall we say, not the best, but I enjoy it anyway. The music is great, though.

  20. I liked Independence Day. We must have a common purpose to unite and overshadow individual wants. I liked the interactions between T.L Jones and Will Smith. I just hope we don't make our last stand in a casino. . .near area 51.

  27. I remember seeing that movie at the theater. They don't seem to make movies of that scope these days... Maybe it's just that I'm getting older and I don't enjoy them like I did in my 20s!
