For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.
This pleasant surprise from director Alfonso CuarĂ³n genuinely took my breath away. A disaster in orbit and you have to find a way home without burning up? *shiver* Not only did the score by Steven Price win best original score (well deserved), Gravity also took home the most Oscar wins this year. But not best picture. Hopefully the academy will let a sci fi movie win someday. They gave one to a fantasy already ...
There will be a new track tomorrow. Thank you for stopping by!
I'm David, and "half of North America just lost their Facebook."
Don't remember that piece unless it was the ending credits. Not a lot of music in the film.
ReplyDeleteI like this soundtrack. I've listened to it a lot in the last few months, along with Man of Steel an the Hans Zimmer Batman ones. Incidentally on the Man of Steel one you only need to buy the last track "The original sketchbook" and it's like getting the whole soundtrack for 99 cents.
ReplyDeleteMy nephew told me about this. He said it's really nice. Will check it out, David.
ReplyDeleteYup, it was a visually stunning film, and the music absolutely added to it.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your A to Z music series. Also, I loved "Gravity."
ReplyDeletePrecious Monsters
Great movie, great music. Go sci-fi! ...and gravity is definitely in the water today. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, what you said about scifi winning one day - it wil happen, as interest is ramping up. 'Gravity' brought to mind that old song with the refrain, "Can you hear me, Major Tom?" It always caught my imagination hearing that song.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I saw teasers of "Gravity" I would get chills and think, "That's terrifying!" Ever since I was little movies about astronauts have frightened me. But Gravity does look really good! Amazing music too!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't seen the movie, and really don't have any desire to. I'm sure I'll like it, but the concept behind it just doesn't grab me. *shrugs*
ReplyDeleteThis movie makes me consider the possibility of two or so hours of unadulterated anxiety. I do that enough to myself, so I think I'll continue to pass on this one. However, not having seen a movie has never dissuaded me from getting the soundtrack. Liking the sound of it so far. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Immarcescible Word
I LOVE stopping by your blog, because I get a little mini break from reading and get to sit back, listen, and enjoy! Thanks, David.
ReplyDeleteAnd, are you serious about half of North America losing Facebook?
Nah. 'Twas a quote from the movie. :)
DeleteYeah, this movie had me on edge. So good!

I loved this movie and the music added to the feel of the movie. Great choice.
ReplyDeletei so enjoyed dropping by at ur blog..... this is beautiful -great movie and great track!!
ReplyDeleteSandra Bullock carried the majority of this movie by herself -- quite a feat. The other actress deserved her Oscar -- but I wanted there to be a tie!
ReplyDeleteArg, still haven't seen this movie yet. *must make time* Great idea for the #atozchallenge, by the way!
ReplyDeleteLove the music, but I won't watch this movie. Too tense, too realistic.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a brilliant theme for the A to Z challenge. Now you've got a growing track you can listen to for your writing sessions! :)
ReplyDeleteCool music. Incredibly, I still haven't seen the movie.
ReplyDeleteAnother song that pulses with energy. I have yet to see Gravity, but everything I've heard has been positive.
ReplyDeleteLove the song! My movie theater was giving away movie posters, and now I have like three copies of the Gravity poster in my room. . . I should probably at least hang one up. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt was such an intriguing movie and fun to have a family discussion after we watched it together.
ReplyDelete"Half of America just lost their Facebook"-- yep.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was beyond great. I wanted Sandra Bullock to win the Oscar. She, and the special effects, and George Clooney AND the director, cinematographer, and YES!!! THE AMAZING SCORE! totally blew me away, Loved this film. Great choice for the music alone! jean
Hello, David
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit.
Very nice A-Z theme. I think I may need to see this movie. It's my year for doing things I wouldn't normally do. I like the music too...
The music is amazing! Loved it and glad you shared it here. ♥
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Gravity yet but I really want to. This track is really peaceful and then slightly haunting towards the end. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteIt really was absolutely stunning. I also thought soundtrack was very intense. I think in another year, it may have won best picture.
ReplyDeleteAnother movie that I need to see..like the music..I've heard good
ReplyDeletethings about the movie..I'll have to put in on my to view list.
We just rented Gravity over the weekend. It was great, and the music was really good too.
ReplyDeleteNice A to Z theme!
This is really beautiful. I have yet to see Gravity but I hope to one day.
ReplyDeleteThanks, again. To have them all together in your 26 blog posts will be terrific!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea for the challenge. I haven't seen Gravity, although I really want to. With kids we don't make it to the theater much but I love me some Redbox!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteStill haven't seen Gravity, but I'd like to. I keep hearing that it was better to see it in the theater and since I missed out on that, we haven't made it a priority. It is nice to hear that it was a great movie....someday we'll get around to it.
By the way, LOVE the book you're currently reading (Rump). It was written by a friend of mine. :)
I haven't seen Gravity yet. Sounds like the score will be one of the highlights.
ReplyDeleteI cracked up at your comment on my blog about Game of Thrones. Guess I'm pretty transparent. I saw Gravity in IMAX 3D. Swear I was really in space.
ReplyDeleteGravity did quite well at the Oscars and the soundtrack definitely has fans.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Gravity, but this track from the score is amazing! I love how immersive it is...
ReplyDeleteI still haven't seen the movie - was sad to miss it at cinemas. But I will see it on DVD at some point anyway. I don't doubt it just won't be the same experience!
ReplyDeleteThis is one I've been meaning to watch. Everyone who saw it that I know said it was really good. I have have to find time to sit down and watch a movie.
ReplyDeleteOne of these days I will get around to seeing this one. I am really loving this song! :-)
ReplyDeleteStefani @ Dreams of Nyssa
*Sigh* I feel kind of like a bum when it comes to Gravity.
ReplyDeleteWhen first seeing the teaser trailers and even the full trailers, despite loving the actors involved, I was like "flop". Ha! While it may not be as bad as avoiding stock in Facebook or Apple, it still makes me a little sad I didn't give it a fair shake.
A friend did see it and highly recommended it to me but ONLY if in 3D (possibly IMAX 3D at that), which I honestly did find appealing. Eventually too much time had passed, though, and I missed out. Maybe if they re-release it.
This soundtrack sounds like it will be great, though! Too bad I will be experiencing the intense moments from the comfort of my living room on the TV >.< My bad!

Just listened to this - very dramatic and cool!
