The WOVEN A to Z Challenge: A is for Arek!

I dedicate this A to Z Challenge to Tina Downey, one of the A to Z Challenge founders and one of the brightest bloggers who sadly left us last year. Harder still, she was in a secret support group that I'm part of. The best way I can honor Tina, who was excited about and never had the opportunity to read my debut, I've teamed up with Father Dragon to present short bios and character portraits from Woven. I'll write the bios and all art is created by Al Diaz. I hope you enjoy this visual tribute to our friend, Tina.

I submitted my IWSG post last week. Click here to read up on it.

Are you ready, Al? Good! Let the Woven A to Z Challenge begin!

A is for Arek

Also known as "The Favored Knight of Avërand," Arek is a tall and strong man, rumored to have won the heart of the fair Princess Tyra. He has dark hair and hazel eyes. He enjoys hunting and likes to climb the social ladder for sport. Arek is determined to obtain what he sets his eyes on, and some people say he will often resort to unsavory methods to win (click the image to enlarge).

Tomorrow: B is for Brooklet.

I'm David, and "do you wrestle with snails, boy?"

  6. Oh Wow! How cool DPK to team up with FD! Now I have to wait to read Woven until after April, because I want this introduction to the book and characters before I read it! Woohoo! Love this! I don't catch snails... but did love "Microcosmos" the film's "Dance of the Snails." Not to be missed!

  27. Arek was the knight a girl dreams of. Alas, he had ulterior motives.

  28. Yes, I was shocked when I heard Tina died. I was one of her helpers for one of the A to Z challenges. Life is far too short.

  45. Talk about adding another dimension to your characters. I wish I could sketch mine out. They are clear in my mind, but on paper they are no better than stick figures drawn by a 5th grader. Well... wait... no. That's an insult to 5th graders.

  46. That is just cool. Great start, all the luck on all the letters!

Welcome in the "A"... as a host I am stopping by to say thank you!

  53. I have only heard good things (very good things) about WOVEN, and my weak-willed self will succumb and add it to her unread tower.
LOVE the dragon's stunning art work.

  54. What a nice thing you're doing in tribute to Tina. I miss her dearly.

Your theme of introducing different characters is interesting and one that I wonder if it would work for my screenplays or films (I never really thought about that before...having only introduced the actors who play these characters). Also I like the artwork depicting Arek. Nice job to both you and Al Diaz.

    Cheers!
