I dedicate this A to Z Challenge to Tina Downey, one of the A to Z Challenge founders and one of the brightest bloggers who sadly left us last year. Harder still, she was in a secret support group that I'm part of. The best way I can honor Tina, who was excited about and never had the opportunity to read my debut, I've teamed up with Father Dragon to present short bios and character portraits from Woven. I'll write the bios and all art is created by Al Diaz. I hope you enjoy this visual tribute to our friend, Tina.
I submitted my IWSG post last week. Click here to read up on it.

Are you ready, Al? Good! Let the Woven A to Z Challenge begin!

Also known as "The Favored Knight of Avërand," Arek is a tall and strong man, rumored to have won the heart of the fair Princess Tyra. He has dark hair and hazel eyes. He enjoys hunting and likes to climb the social ladder for sport. Arek is determined to obtain what he sets his eyes on, and some people say he will often resort to unsavory methods to win (click the image to enlarge).
Tomorrow: B is for Brooklet.
I'm David, and "do you wrestle with snails, boy?"
Al did an awesome job with the drawing! Can't wait to see the rest of them.
ReplyDeleteArek was a bit of a... well, I won't say it.
Nice drawing!!
ReplyDeleteI'm Teresa and no I didn't wrestle with snails as a boy. I've stepped on a few though. Eww.
The drawing is really nice. Is snail wrestling the next sport?
ReplyDeleteNot me. Snails are way to slimey.
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration! Also, I love that your A to Z post is so short - I can actually read it in addition to all the others going on right now :)
ReplyDeleteThat's how I pictured him...kinda like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh Wow! How cool DPK to team up with FD! Now I have to wait to read Woven until after April, because I want this introduction to the book and characters before I read it! Woohoo! Love this! I don't catch snails... but did love "Microcosmos" the film's "Dance of the Snails." Not to be missed!
ReplyDeleteNice drawing. I love illustrations!
ReplyDeleteGreat drawing! Looking forward to meeting more characters :)
ReplyDeleteI love that illustration! This is such a great idea. :)

Arek was such a blow hard...no offense to his creators. ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's nice of you to dedicate your challenge to Tina. It should be fun learning more about this series through your posts.
ReplyDeleteArek was the knight a girl dreams of. Alas, he had ulterior motives.
ReplyDeleteArek sounds a bit devious. :) Untethered Realms
ReplyDeleteYes, I was shocked when I heard Tina died. I was one of her helpers for one of the A to Z challenges. Life is far too short.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - I'm A-Z Blogger number 596 Leaning On The Gate - and having great fun so far! Sorry to hear about Tina - my thoughts are with her friends and family. As this is the first day of the A-Z I'll light a candle for her.
ReplyDeleteYou have started off strong David. Love the art and bio. RIP Tina, we will never forget you.
ReplyDeleteWell of course he won the heart of the fair princess. Just look at him!

Well, he would win any princess with hazel eyes and dark hair now wouldn't he?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful thought to dedicate your A-Z to Tina Downey. I am so sorry for your loss, and that of her friends and family.
Best,
Nilanjana.

As ready as a dragon can be, Sir David! May the Dragon Ancestors bless this journey together. :D
ReplyDeleteNasty character I recall. Love the picture. Way to go Dragon.
ReplyDeleteGreat bios and art but i gotta admit I love that quote! Thanks for A to Z hopping by!
ReplyDeleteOoh, Arek sounds like a fun character to read about. Love the picture, too--how cool!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very nice tribute. And Al did a great job with the art.
ReplyDeleteHappy A-to-Z-ing!
It's nice that you teamed up with Al. Lovely post and tribute to Tina. She is missed very much!
ReplyDeleteWith hair like that it's no surprise he won over the princess.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent illustration indeed. Can't blame a guy for wanting to win
ReplyDeleteLoved how you and Al teamed up. Arek sounds like a fun character to write and the illustration is marvelous. Good luck this month! :)
ReplyDeleteHow sweet that you are dedicating your A to Z posts to Tina. And how wonderful that you've teamed up with Father Dragon—he is truly a talented artist.
ReplyDeleteTalk about adding another dimension to your characters. I wish I could sketch mine out. They are clear in my mind, but on paper they are no better than stick figures drawn by a 5th grader. Well... wait... no. That's an insult to 5th graders.
ReplyDeleteThat is just cool. Great start, all the luck on all the letters!
ReplyDeleteWelcome in the "A"... as a host I am stopping by to say thank you!

Awesome job, you two... who knew a Dragon and a Knight could make it happen :)
Arek sounds like a very self-confident, determined man! Great picture. :)
ReplyDeleteA lovely dedication to your friend~ You did an amazing job!
ReplyDeleteArek. What a stud on paper!
ReplyDeleteCool concept for the challenge and great artwork. Untethered Realms
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog (A Bench with a View) and your comment :) Arek looks very manly! What a lovely tribute to dedicate this challenge to Tina :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the challenge!

I have only heard good things (very good things) about WOVEN, and my weak-willed self will succumb and add it to her unread tower.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dragon's stunning art work.
What a nice thing you're doing in tribute to Tina. I miss her dearly.
ReplyDeleteYour theme of introducing different characters is interesting and one that I wonder if it would work for my screenplays or films (I never really thought about that before...having only introduced the actors who play these characters). Also I like the artwork depicting Arek. Nice job to both you and Al Diaz.
Cheers!

Love this theme. I'm getting a very late start on day one, but I should be able to make up for it tomorrow. Cool drawing, Al. How is Al? It's been a while. I will be back to read more tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteArek sounds like a distinct character. 'Dark Eyes and Hazel Eyes' I imagined handsome.
ReplyDeleteAnd Incredible Art!

You and Al make a great team! What an outstanding drawing!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Sounds like a very strong character :)
ReplyDeleteThis is my first year to participate in A-to-Z. Sorry to hear about Tina. I did not have the pleasure of knowing her, but hopefully I'll learn a bit about her in your tribute. Looking forward to your future posts. I love fantasy and science fiction. Arek sounds like a great character. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat theme for the A to Z..I read the book and thought it was just wonderful. I look forward to seeing all the sketches.
ReplyDeleteOoOOoOoOooo I feel I will enjoy your A to Z once again! Looking forward to seeing more characters. Arek does looks like someone who would resort to some unsavory acts...
ReplyDeleteHaven't read the book but you've piqued my interest. Thanks for dropping by my posts.
