For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.
I discovered this show not long ago, and considering how old the first episode is, I was impressed with the production value. King Arthur and Camelot was always something I had a hard time getting into, but spin the legend with a young Merlin, and I'm hooked. Since then I've caught up to the series and have found myself coming back to the score by Rob Lane and Rohan Stevenson. These tracks have proved to be pivotal in inspiring the fantasy out of me when I need it most.
There will be a new track tomorrow. Thank you for stopping by!
I'm David, and "watch where you swing that sword, Clotpole!"
I'll probably catch the whole series when it finishes.
ReplyDeleteI knew nothing about this show til now - but I love Merlin and I love the music! I'm going to add it to y Netflix queue :)
ReplyDeleteThe entire soundtrack for this show is baffling to me. I love it! I'm super picky about music, but when I watched the first episode of this show I fell irrevocably in love--with the soundtrack. I like the characters too, but the music...

Love the show, love the music. Thanks for posting this!
ReplyDeleteHi David, I'm happy to discover your blog and after reading Ilima's post, I think the time has come to listen to music while writing. Who knows where it'll take me? I love Merlin, by the way, boy or man:)

You have great taste in music! I have never heard of this show but am going to look it up! Considering I read The Sword in the Stone at least 3-4 times, I bet I would love the show! thanks! jean
ReplyDeleteOnce again, great track, very emotional. Never heard of the show, though.
ReplyDeleteI only know this show exists because of my sister's love for it. I've never listened to any of the music. Appreciate the share. :)

Interesting, I assumed with the knight business you'd already be into this well known legend. But I saw Merlin back when it started on NBC (soon after moved to SYFY) so I was in on the early boat and I must say this is one of the best versions of the legend ever. You did the right thing getting into this series David and the music is so beautiful. You are touched in both your happy and sad place at once. Listened straight 'til the end. I was like, it's done already. Now you know that's great music.
ReplyDeleteThis song has so much depth to it, each stroke of the beautiful strings brings back a memory and a smile....
ReplyDeleteI watched the beginning of Merlin, but then I lost track of it.
ReplyDeleteThis song is amazing. The string work gave me chills about ten times!
I LOVE the Merlin series. My boys and I were slaves to it until we'd seen them all! I even ordered season 4 from China because I couldn't wait for it to come out on Netflix:). We bought season 5 from itunes just to get it early. We have Merlin marathons all the time. We've bought several of the music tracks--they're so moving!
ReplyDeleteI loved Merlin! The best part to me was the dynamic between Merlin and Arthur. That song was beautiful- I'm downloading the soundtrack right now!
ReplyDeleteLoved Merlin when it first started. It has a charm of it's own xx
ReplyDeleteI like that show. We watched it a bunch of times. It's one of those things where we turn on the channel and just end up leaving it there all Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteHistory Sleuth - A to Z Challenge.
I've never even heard of this and it sounds like something Id be into. Sometimes I don't know what the televison programmers in this country are thinking.
ReplyDeleteI totally love that series. My kids got me hooked.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've seen that series, yet? The last Merlin thing I watched was a total chimpanzee poop fest, but I think that was a different show.
ReplyDeleteI love the characters in this series :) The actors do such a great job.

This is one I need to catch up on I started watching it then missed a few episodes and quit. Awesome song.

I've heard of this show, but not watched it. I imagine it is something that I will watch once it is all over and done. That way there will be no waiting from one season to the next. I tend to do this sort of thing... a lot.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you've picked a winner for the song today. I really like it. It feels majestic and sweeping. It's the sort of music that would play during that pivotal moment that everyone has been waiting to see for (what seems like) ever.
wow, never heard of it! must google the series...
ReplyDeleteI've never seen the show, but the song is nice. Very majestic.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that, I'm adding it to my playlist.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to watch this show for a while! Now I'm definitely going to have to, because the song is amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteI must say, Sir David, you really are choosing some absolutely BEAUTIFUL scores! This one is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI have this one on my ipod actually. It's good to write to.
ReplyDeleteI think your posts are going to form the basis of a file I will put on my computer of "Music to Write By". Hmmm. :O)

Wonderful how a quality score can hook us. I have not seen the show, but I just listened to your clip and can see what you mean.
ReplyDeleteGreat show. Need to get back on it! :)
ReplyDeleteI just finished Season 1. I'm totally hooked.
ReplyDeleteI'm nearing the end of season three and still loving it. Though I somehow stumbled across all of the spoilers over the last year or so, so I know everything that is going to happen. (But the show is so well done it hasn't ruined my enjoyment of it.)
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of a game I had when I was a kid--Merlin. It was red and shaped like a cordless phone (even though I'd never seen a cordless phone at that point) and it lit up for games like Tic-Tac-Toe. I hadn't thought about that game in a while!
ReplyDeleteSeems I am the only one who didn't like Merlin but the music is cool.
ReplyDeleteI've watched most of the seasons:) Great music!
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming this may be different from the mini series of Merlin? The one with that Jurassic Park fella? My brother loves that mini series. Never knew there was a full ongoing series now.
ReplyDeleteAs a child I was fascinated with the tale. So much so, that I watched that cartoon where the football team gets sent back in time and become knights and such.
Jak at The Cryton Chronicles & Dreams in the Shade of Ink
Caught up on all the songs posted so far - there is definitely a lot of inspiring stuff in your list!
ReplyDeleteI love the soundtrack! Such a great show. One of my favorites really. So sad it is all over and done with. 5 seasons were totally not enough. They went by way too quickly.
