For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.
There is that magic moment in every show that must happen to capture an audience, and man, did the guys behind The Walking Dead do it for me with this track within its pilot episode. Who would think that such serenity could exist in the score of an undead world? Bear McCreary nailed this score, and the scene it was first used for took my heart hostage and made me a devote watcher. It also showed how I could finally write the zombie novel I've always wanted. Don't die, Daryl.
There will be a new track on Monday. Thank you for stopping by!
I'm David, and "I'm doing things, Lori ... Thaaaaangs ..."
It wouldn't be all running from zombies. With most of the population gone, the world would be as stark and bleak as that music.
ReplyDeleteI admit I haven't watched this show yet! I'm sure I will:)
ReplyDeleteI'm probably one of a very select few who have not watched The Walking Dead, and I don't think I will. I have nothing against the show, but I just never get into things that are popular for some reason. Hmm . . .
ReplyDeleteThe song is very serene, like you said. I like it. :)
Whoa... this is serene and beautiful....
ReplyDeleteNever caught the show... I know lots of people who "die" for it. LOL.
this is very calming...and ur right I wouldn't have expected this from a zombie movie...!
ReplyDeleteAfter listening to this score I want to watch that first episode all over again. Either I missed it or I was just too enthralled. Love The Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing right now because the thing I'm ALWAYS complaining about with The Walking Dead is the LACK of music. It does have a beautiful theme.
ReplyDeleteTrue Heroes from A to Z
For some reason, despite my love of the zombie apocalypse scenario, there are some zombie shows and movies I'm not really interested in. The Walking Dead is one of them. Not really sure why, but I do like that music. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Immarcescible Word
I'm like Crystal. Normally I don't associate The Walking Dead with music. But this one is pretty good.
ReplyDeleteDo feel like i've missed the Vampire and now the Zombie boat? I have strong feelings against vampires, but I like zombies. I need to give this show a try.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched The Walking Dead...but I hear so many good things about it, I feel like I should. Plus, it meets my #1 criteria for a TV show: it's on Netflix!
ReplyDeleteActually, it's the music in the opening credits of The Walking Dead that I absolutely LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteWalking Dead is one of my future binge watches.
ReplyDeleteThat is cool music. My son got me into that show. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to catch up on your posts. And listen to the music. Hopefully I will get a chance tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteThat really is beautiful music! It's hard to believe it's from Walking Dead!
ReplyDeleteThat music and The Walking Dead do not seem to go together. Count me as one more person who has not seen this very popular show...
ReplyDeleteThe writing in the Walking Dead blew me away. This music is powerful, too. I couldn't last the whole series--it was too hard for me to watch what the living did to each other--but I still want to write a thank you note to the people who created Rick's character in that first episode. His compassion stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteWalking dead is a popular theme today :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one creepy show.
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice to see you Saturday, David. That was quite the philosophical discussion we all had, wasn't it?
Love, love, love Walking Dead!! Such an addicting show! Great music track!
ReplyDeleteThis is a series I am ashamed to say I haven't caught up on. :( Yep, that's an actual sad face. Some day I'll eventually catch up. I hope!
ReplyDeleteLove the Walking Dead! I definitely think it's got one of the best TV scores.
ReplyDeleteYou're right dude. When I actually stop and just listen to that track, I realize how much I've not even noticed it in the show. That opening track is super-good too. Sets the whole mood.
ReplyDeleteMesmerizing music!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I had to like... zip past the comments (which I usually read) to avoid any sort of spoilers within... I've only seen the first season (one time) and I loved it, but couldn't ever get anyone to watch it with me, which is always more fun. I need to just suck it up and get on with it.
ReplyDeleteI really like this piece and I think, from memory, I recall it being from the end of the pilot episode. A great scene, among many throughout the first season.
Going to listen to it again, as it's so short... but I have to avoid being victim of spoilers! Speed scrolling, speed scrolling!
