Post: General Update, New Members, and Brief Hiatus

Plans don't always follow through as intended. Fact of life. Rule of the cosmos, which can cause areas in one's life to be upheavaled. My blog is one of those areas ... and it's entirely my bad. I've bitten off more than I can chew, and am doing my best to catch up, but there is also this nagging voice that's telling me to veer from the present course that this blog is taking. Not sure how that's going to pan out yet ...

In short, I'm letting you know that everything's cool here, we're alive and well, and I'll be taking a short leave to recalibrate the direction of this blog. General maintenancing, just like my back sprinklers ...

Update: A few things worth noting: 1) The projected length of Undead Road is now about 80K (so much unexpected awesomeness happening, including the turning of Ilima Todd into a zombie), which also means, yet again, it won't be finished as soon as I had thought. It'll get there, though. 2) Woven has a map (I may have said that already)! We've also had a glimpse of a cover. You guys ... this is going to be really exciting. Chills all over! 3) For those of you who are going to LDStorymakers this year (or not), J.A. Bennett and I are planning a little authorly dining opportunity ... and there's still room. Check out the details for Write or Dine here. Bring an appetite!

How are you guys doing? Participating in the AtoZ? Has spring finally arrived in your woods, or is Jack Frost messing with your day?

I'm David, and Annabeth has done something to her hair ...

  1. Ilima's a zombie? How'd that happen?

I was thinking they'd taken so long to get the second Percy movie out that it wouldn't happen. Should be fun.

Reimagining the blog, huh? This should be interesting.

  3. Glad to hear my undeadness is part of the unexpected awesomeness. :) Can't wait to see that map and cover. And I'll be ready and hungry for Write or Dine. Will flesh be on the menu?

  4. I so get the real world, life gets in the way, I can't keep trying to be the everything everyone on the internet tells me I need to be. Do what you can when you can and if it's not important, it will find its place in your life where it belongs.

  5. Yay for our dinner! I can't wait! Which reminds me.. I'll send you an email in a bit :) I'm happy to see you blog whenever, I was just thinking about how I haven't seen you around! As far as Percy Jackson goes, looks a little closer to the book, but still different. Awesomesauce!

  6. This second Percy Jackson movie has been a loooong time coming. Probably as long as the G.I. Joe sequel has taken. I'm glad they could get Logan Lerman back to play Percy, because when you take so long to do a sequel, chances are the actor or actresses might get tied up with other projects and then the whole thing collapses into a steaming dung pile.

I'm extremely excited to see your map for Woven. I bet it looks awesome. And you know I'm a huge zombie fan. Dude, it's like you're writing all the stuff that I like to read in my free time.

  11. Enjoy your break and hope you figure out what you want to do here. We all need breaks sometime and sometimes need to cut back in the blogging in general.

  12. It's okay to take a break to assess the course of action. (I would even say it's wise.) Besides it's the perfect time since we're all like crazy with the challenge. Good to know you're doing great!

  13. I have to say The A-Z challenge is somewhat challenging and my whole day to day existence is either on mine or someone else's blog! Spring sun is coming but the cold wind still blows.

  16. Good to hear you are doing well. Blogging require a bit of housekeeping from time to time, especially when there's lots of stuff going on and it's coming at ya in different directions. Take care and see you soon! (:

  17. I was wondering if they were going to continue this series.

  18. You and Jen having a little meal - now that sounds fun! I'm sorry I'm not going. Jack Frost is still spitting in our faces here. It was 75 on Monday and it's supposed to snow tonight. Yeah, the weather in Iowa is sucky.

  19. Sounds cool, can't wait to see the map. Good luck with all you real life and internet life projects.

  20. Jealous I can't make Write and Dine, but I know you'll post some pics, complete with a side of awesome sauce:)

    GOOD LUCK :)

  21. Finally spring here. I love maps. I always wanted one in my books. I always draw one for myself but they're not book quality.

  22. Blogging is one of those things that you can take a break from and we'll understand. I haven't been faithful to my blog. I'm only just starting to get back into it and telling my self to visit favorite blogs and write one to two times a months. I can't handle more, not with three kids and everything else I do as a mother. Good luck with your stuff. Let me know if you need anything! :)

  23. Writing comes before blogging for sure. I know I am going to take a break as soon as A-Z is over. I do hope you continue to blog, though, as I do enjoy your blog. Glad to hear you have so much happening on the writing front.

  24. We all have to regroup now and again! Sort of like spring cleaning for the schedule.

  25. Oh I am sure most of us understand sometimes the blog takes on a life of its own and we trying to live in our real worlds and this blogger world find we need to learn that fine lost art of juggling now and then. Take care we will be here or we will be out juggling too. Life is like that. B

  26. Hi David .. life keeps happening and we need to add it in- surprisingly!! I hope all gets sorted .. but it sounds as though you have some direction and that's the main thing ..

  27. What's this hiatus all about? Freak! Not cool, DPK! And umm, I still need a zombie named after me. I don't care how you do it. Just do it. And my overbearing rant is over for the day. Goodbye.

  28. Yes, I was wondering when the next PERCY movie would be coming out! Good luck with revising your blog.....

But I'm one for why fix something that isn't broken... LOL.

    Have a great weekend David!

  29. Huh..

"but there is also this nagging voice that's telling me to veer from the present course that this blog is taking. Not sure how that's going to pan out yet"

That sounds ominous. Nice cliffhanger Mr. Author. ;)

  30. The dreaded "H" word. In all my years doing this, at least 50% of bloggers don't come back. You'd better not pull a disappearing act!

Pretty sure my oldest son will want to see the next Percy Jackson movie. Hopefully, it's better than the first one.

  31. Hope your hiatus is going well! And SO cool that you have a map and cover for Woven!! Can't wait to see it.

  32. Speaking as someone who took a year off from blogging, then came back and took it in a new direction...do what's best for you. Don't let it become a chore. We all have enough of those. I was amazed at how many people were still here when I came back. My Google traffic even increased while I was away. You know all those rules you read about blogging? Ignore them.

  33. Zombies are great! Hope you can sort out everything you've got to do and can find time to relax too. Best of luck with everything!
