Music has the power to haunt the soul. With the right tone and vocal accompaniment, this feeling can be achieved with evoking effect. One such composer is masterful at this, which is why his music brings a lasting quality to the films that he writes music for, in my opinion.
Ice Dance: by Danny Elfman
From the film: Edward
Doesn't that thrust you right into a wonderland feeling? Even the music sounds like it's at night, with snow falling, and someone is looking around in awe at the sight of it - which is precisely what happens in the scene this music plays with. And this week, I'm tagging Alexandra Lanc to this track, since she has this amazing presence that calmly enters any blog she visits - haunting, even.
May this wield your emotions as you tackle those words today!
I'm David, and now I'm in the mood for some cocoa ...
That was a great movie. Was that the first in the long collaboration between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Amazing how music can conjure something so specific in our minds.
ReplyDeleteThe score fit the film.
ReplyDeleteSuch a bittersweet film.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit...that movie creeped me out. But the sound track is nice. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a soothing music. Precisely what I need now. Great!
ReplyDeleteMusic is so key in film. I recall seeing Pyscho and my grandmother showing how with it muted the film lost a lot of its scariness, it needed the music to make it scary.
ReplyDeleteI love that freaking movie!
ReplyDeleteI think all of Danny Elfman's music sounds the same. I prefer John Williams or James Horner.
ReplyDeleteNow I want some cocoa too!
ReplyDeletethat movie is amazing! Johnny Depp as always played great and the soundtrack - just amazing!
Music can be so emotive can't it? I find this piece strangely haunting.
ReplyDeleteDanny Elfman is an awesome composer... which reminds me of that seen in the family guy spoof of star wars when they killed John Williams and lamented having to have the soundtrack done by Elfman...
ReplyDeleteYeah. Music so totally sets the mood. There are some composers who are gifted at writing memorable music, the kind that stays with you after the film has ended.
ReplyDeleteYes, that certainly fuels the imagination and brings a touch of sorrow to me. I like it and loved the film.
ReplyDeleteHuge Danny Elfman fan. Currently really enjoying his Oz soundtrack. :)
ReplyDeleteI think you nailed me on all sides, David. This is by my favorite composer, from one of my favorite films, by one of my favorite directors, and it reminds me of one of the series that I am writing, featuring Christmas, winter, and snow. Great pick, certainly! And thank you for the mention. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't been by as much lately. I've been sick, and in preps for the Midnight release next friday, and I haven't had time to breathe, let alone check blogs. I've missed it.
Keep writing!
Alexandra~
This is such a beautiful track! It really felt like snow when I was listening to it. I love music that conjures up images so beautifully. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMusic has the power to evoke all kinds of emotions.
ReplyDeleteThat is truly a beautiful piece of music. It conveys exactly what the movie intended. I could listen to something like that all day.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear you know of the Tintin movie. My friends in town either haven't heard of it or didn't like it.
I think this is my favorite piece from any movie ever! I just watched this movie about a month ago with my kids. It's great watching movies with them that I loved when I was their age!
