What would it be like to ride on the back of a dragon?
That's something I've always wanted to know. Sadly, I've only seen it in movies - but if you find yourself driving cross-country, over plains at high speed, crank up this track and turn on your imagination. It's the closest thing to riding a dragon you'll ever experience.
Unless you fly an F-22 ... or something like it ...
Bastian's Happy Flight: by Klaus Doldinger and Giorgio Moroder
From the film: The NeverEnding Story
Who else could I tag this track on than Al Diaz, the Blogosphere's own famous dragon? Not that I'm suggesting that I want to ride on Al's back or anything (knights and dragons have an iffy relationship, but that's all in the past, right?), but I'd be honored for the chance!
Hope this track helps your writing take flight. Have a good one!
I'm David, and I don't want to keep my feet on the ground.
Al is the coolest dragon I know!
ReplyDeleteI had a dream that I got turned into a dragon a few weeks ago. That was pretty cool, I can still remember what it felt like to fly.
ReplyDeleteI lived and breathed this movie as a kid, and I LOVE this song. I may have also had a serious crush on Atreyu.
ReplyDeleteI loved this movie when I was a kid (I may still be mildly obsessed with it). And like Laura, I often have dreams where I am a dragon.
ReplyDeleteOh, and there is a company who does flights in WWII bombers, and most of them have a "sun roof" you can stick your head out of to get a "better view." I'd imagine that's a bit like riding a dragon.
Interesting factoid: the kid that played Atreyu is a gay man.
ReplyDeleteI also liked the Neverending Story, but probably for different reasons than some think. I really liked the idea behind the child-like empress and one of my favorite scenes is when she and Bastian are together and she has but a single grain of sand left from her entire empire. But it's enough to rebuild.
I loved this film as a kid, and I even like it now. Great pick for the score. I definitely love the music in the film, especially the ending theme (I'm not ashamed!).
ReplyDeleteBest,
Alexandra~
I love that dragon, too.
ReplyDeleteI loved that movie. As a kid I dreamed of having a luck dragon. :)
ReplyDeleteFlying on a dragon would be awesome. But even better? Being able to fly myself.
ReplyDeleteIt's been forever since I've seen this movie! I remember being disappointed as a kid becasue it actually ended. How rude! ;)
ReplyDeleteEver since getting hooked on McCaffrey's Dragonrider series, I always wanted to ride a dragon.
ReplyDeleteAnd Boxy is gay? I'm always the last to know.
Close to where we live is the base for the Hawaii National Guard and *they* fly the F-22.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw a couple of the '22s take off, we were at the beach (which is *next* to the taxiing part of the runway and OMgosh, it sounded like a dragon (several of them!!) roaring when those planes took off.... I felt like I was on the set of Top Gun II :)
Sorry for the incoherent rambling :)
This is my favorite theme of one of my favorite movies. Thank you very much for choosing this one in particular. It has made my day. And such dreams are possible. I *do* have magic and one day Sir David will take a ride with Father Dragon. I give you my word, and you know dragons don't take their word lightly. :D
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine what it would be like to ride a dragon's back. Bastian, Eragon, Hiccup...all just thrilled at riding and diving and having a blast (literally sometimes) with dragons.
ReplyDeleteLe sigh.
I too have always wanted to ride on a dragon!!! I'm posting a picture of my awesome new dragon shield I got at the renaissance faire tomorrow for the celebrate the small things bloghop. Make sure you stop by to check it out. I already gave Al the head's up too. ;)
ReplyDeleteJust watched this movie with my kids the other day. Falcor is both cute and a little creepy. Can't explain it.
ReplyDeleteHey - also, pretty sure this song broke up the 80s band, Kajagoogoo.
ReplyDeleteThat score really captures the moment and makes me want to ride a dragon. I'd love to capture all that emotion in writing.
ReplyDeleteI haven't though about The Neverending Story in ages. I don't know if I'd like to fly on a dragon. To be honest, the dragon in this movie sort of scared me. I think it's because in one scene it nose or head or something looked really porous. It was like the pores were going to swallow me up and digest me slowly until I was left only as dry bones. Ok, it wasn't that bad, but it still freaked me out a bit. Now anyone who reads this is going to watch the movie just to see the pores. haha
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I could enjoy this anytime. I've wanted to ride a dragon since reading Anne McCaffrey's Pern series.
ReplyDelete.......dhole
Loved that movie! Though I'm kinda wussy--I struggle in airplanes and that's enclosed! Not sure I'd be able to handle riding a dragon, lol!
ReplyDeleteAw- you brought back some memories for me here David. I loved the Neverending Story. It was always one of my favs. Since I hate airplanes and flying in general, I'd gladly trade a flight in Coach for a ride on the back of a dragon, for sure.
