Thursday Scores: The Gift

In every action story, there's that moment of calmness, growth of character, and the undeniable feeling that the story is headed in a direction you weren't expecting it to take. In my opinion, such a moment was executed in this week's example of Thursday Scores:

The Gift: by Basil Poledouris
From the film: Quigley Down Under

The film itself is one of the finest westerns I've ever seen (even though it doesn't take place in the American West), and I'm going to have to tag Bonnee Crawford for this track, not because she's from the land down under (or partially so), but because she resonates a generous, quiet strength in each post she writes, a gift to us all.

Round up your muse, buckaroos! Let's get us some write'n done!

I'm David, and Alan Rickman makes an awesome Western villain!

  3. Ok, I'm going to have to buy some soundtracks and try writing with them . . I usually write in quiet, but I can see where music like this could help. I can't write to anything with lyrics . . .I get too distracted. Unfortunately in my non-writing life, I mainly listen to lyric heavy music.

  5. Basil Pouledouris wrote the score for Les Miserables starring Liam Neeson, one of my favorite scores ever! Check it out if you haven't heard it. I'll have to listen to this one.

  10. Ok I guess I'm the only one that didn't see it! I didn't know you could brand the L letter on my forehead that quickly!

  11. Quigley Down Under = masterpiece. So does Unforgiven and Two Mules for Sister Sarah. I'm not a fan of westerns, but every once in a while, I get a hankerin' for one.

I hated Cowboys and Aliens despite my love of Daniel Craig. What a waste of my life to see that garbage.

  12. Nice track! I love to find new writing music, and it's hard for moments where you want things a bit slower and more...relaxing.

  13. Alan Rickman should have played more villains, he does such a great job of it. My dad really likes this movie, the music was pretty grand too.

  16. It's great to think about those significant moments in stories and all the different ways to express it. Music is powerful that way. Definitely speaks to the muse.

  20. Ah, a classic movie. I was raised on John Wayne, but once I left home I branched out into other Western movies (including those from the South Pacific/Indian Ocean region). The gunfight at the end is particularly good, because the whole time...well, I guess I shouldn't give it away. But it's awesome. The look on Alan Rickman's face is priceless.
