(Before I begin, I want to thank you all for your kind comments and warm wishes over the weekend. It was a wonderful, reflective week and you guys helped make that possible. The party's over. It's time to work. Thank you for your continuous, encouraging support!)
Some of you know I have a soft spot for zombies, and frankly, I've been having withdrawals. Last night finally cured my curiosity about Grimes and Crew and the looming prison shown in the background in the last shot of The Walking Dead Season 2. New characters, new dangers, and more zombies ... what more could a guy ask for?
The team in action!
The stakes are high this season. Lori is about to have her baby, Andrea is sick, Rick is something of a control freak now, and their only medical expert has lost a leg. Wow! The hits just keep coming. The one thing I didn't expect during their takeover of an overrun prison was zombies in riot gear. Kind of hard to take down armored undead wearing face shields. I squirmed like a worm. Yeah. This show is pretty much brilliant on all fronts. I'm fueled with new ideas, too.
Looking forward to watching this new season unfold!

Update: I'm glad to say the Undead WiP is officially 1/3 done (just needed a little zombie action to get the creative juices flowing)! As my usual routine, I'll spend the next week reviewing what I have so far before I move on, to be sure my bases are covered before I drive the story into its second act. I'm pretty happy with the way it's going so far, so I don't expect this quick edit will take much time. I hope not. I have a Halloween costume to put together. Can you guess what?
As always, there's an awesome week coming your way from this blog. Click back for new tropes, reviews, and pertinent sound advice.
So my cosmic friends, how was your weekend? How's the weather?
I'm David, and who wants to go (record-setting) skydiving?
Felix Baumgartner, October 14, 2012
I predict you're going as a zombie! Maybe a space zombie...?
ReplyDeleteSo they're locking themselves in a prison now? I maintain the smart thing to do is get on a boat. I don't think there are sailing zombies yet, though pirate zombies would probably make for a good book, though I suppose they kind of did that in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say that. Getting on a boat is the plan in the Tell Tales TWD game I'm playing. Sadly, there were no boats when they got to the docks.
DeleteWe had to watch the sky jump as a family. It was just incredible. Can you imagine....he Felix went supersonic!!! That's crazy.
ReplyDeleteYour post is so full of energy, I just want to go sit down and write. Too bad I'm at my day job and have 'yucky' stuff to take care of.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week of writing or rather, editing.
I watched the Stratos mission live. The guy on CapCom was actually the guy whose record was being broken. How awesome is that? We were absolutely riveted.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I don't usually make sure we watch a show the day it comes on, but we made sure to watch TWD last night! It was fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThis show is so intense! So glad it's back; I, too, have been having withdrawals...
ReplyDeleteI've seen so many people talking about the zombie show. Sounds like it has a lot of fans.
ReplyDeleteThat jump was crazy.
Congrats on your WIP. That's awesome news. For Halloween, I'm gonna guess...Captain America. Lol.
ReplyDeleteMy son wants to be a zombie for Halloween. SCORE! All we have to do is shred up some old clothes of his and put on so undead makeup. Congrats on getting so much done already on your WIP!
ReplyDeleteWe don't know if Herschel has "just lost a leg." That emergency amputation via axe may not be enough to stop him from becoming a zombie. Man was that an intense scene. The Walking Dead is just brutal. I kept thinking "why did Herschel walk so close to that dead body when he had the whole hallway?" I think people in that kind of apocalypse would be hyper-sensitive to the fact that even small mistakes could be your last.
ReplyDeleteThey would be wise to use the Zombieland rules. If I was in their shoes, I would have given that one the Double-Tap the moment I saw it - but that's me. :)
DeleteHi David, thanks for the shout-out and for visiting my blog. I'm not into Zombies. A little squeemish in my old age. :) My daughter read a book called Breathers: A Zombie's Lament. She quit drinking Coke. In fact, all carbonated drinks. :) I think there was a scene that really got to her. LOL
ReplyDeleteLOVED the Walking Dead premiere. I've been waiting for this one all summer, and it didn't disappoint. Only thing that bothered me...Why would you let the ONLY person with medical experience go into the danger zone? Wouldn't you guard him like the holy grail? Dumb. Now, if the baby would just kill off Lori... *insert evil laugh*
ReplyDeleteI have a theory about the baby ... ;)
DeleteGlad you're getting your zombie fix. I'm not so into them, but love some of the fantasy TV shows and just started watching Revolution. It's pretty good.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out David! That was very kind of you!! I owe you pad thai...
ReplyDeleteI have yet to watch this show, but it looks so intriguing!

That skydive was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Undead WiP is picking up steam! :D
ReplyDeleteMy son is busy fighting zombies in Minecraft, right now. Well... not -right now- because he's at school, but I bet he wishes it was -right now-.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I had to cover my eyes for most of your post. Since DISH dropped AMC (thanks a lot) I couldn't watch the show last night. I see it's available for streaming on Amazon today, but I'm torn because Monday is supposed to be a dedicated writing night for me online at The Practice Room. And I don't want to make a habit of skipping TPR for a whole season of TWD.
ReplyDeleteTrying to practice some self-restraint here ...
I don't mind zombies in books, but I'm not sure how I would handle them on a screen...but TWD does sound pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteDavid - thank you so much for the shout out! I am guessing that you are going to be a zombie for Halloween?
ReplyDeleteI don't watch that series but I've heard several people talk about it and how they were looking forward to the premiere. I hope you got your zombie fix :)
ReplyDeleteI love The Walking Dead. Brilliant show! Daryl's my fav in the TV series. I heard they were going to write him in to the comics. That'd be awesome!
ReplyDeleteLori - ugh. And the baby... I'm thinking maybe it'll be the cure, like an anti-virus sort of thing.
I love how TWD keeps me guessing!
glad you had a great weekend! and always new party members for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm dying to see the next season of The Walking Dead, but I'll have to wait till it comes out on Netflix, dang it.
ReplyDeleteI love TWD, and the season three premiere was awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove TWD! My sister stopped watching season 2 because it got too lovey dovey, but I find it has a delightful mix of romantic tension and blood squirting zombie decapitations.
