Post: Adventures In Caving, Members, And An Update!

A few weeks ago, we took a trip to this place ...

Nice place, just on the edge of Idaho. I'd never been, and I love caves. We drove there and found a sweet path ... made of wood.

Yep ... that's real wood, all right ...

Needless to say, it was a dark experience. The trail was a bit rocky in some places, too. This is making for a really deep story, isn't it?

And might I say, the very bottom of the cave was a nit bit chilly.

But what's the best thing about caving? The bacon, of course ...

Hmm ... Bacon ...

It's totally a good idea to get out every once in a while and check out someplace new, and it could be just around the corner. You never know what kind of creative fuel you'll pump at these idea stations.

Check this action out. We have a couple new members to the club!

Update: There's been a setback on new stuff last week (thanks, cold), but I'm glad to say Woven is officially getting shopped around again! We sent out some queries and a request, so we're excited to see if our work pays off. I also did some research and outlining. This will be a great zombie novel when it's finished, you guys. I'm for serious.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone for your comments on Friday. It was quite a trip revising an unpleasant memory, but then again, I'm grateful that I'm able to remember it. Seriously, you guys rock!

There's some cool stuff on the blog this week, so click back soon.

So, how was your weekend? Get much writing done?

I'm David, and pumpkin flavored everything is coming ...

  2. I love going in caves (just not for too long, or I'll start to feel shut it)! Thanks for sharing photos. And that Pumpkin Flavored Everything poster is hilarious :)

  3. Unfortunately I don't think there are many caves near me, which also makes it inconvenient if I need to build a superhero lair under my house.

  4. Bacon, funny!
Yes, I am within twenty pages of finishing the major edits on my next book. Then I get to torture Rusty and Jeffrey with it.

  5. I'm looking forward to fall and pumpkins but not so much the pumpkin flavored everything. Spooky cave, steep scary walkway (I don't like heights much), but cool bacon :)

  6. We love Minnetonka Cave! Did they turn out the lights at the end? So scary! ;)

  7. I've been to several deep caves like that. Kinda creepy, isn't it, especially when they turn the lights out and you find out just how dark dark can be.

  8. Just a tit bit nipply in the caves, eh?

  9. I really enjoyed going into Carlsbad caverns. But I don't like the claustrophobia of being underground. I think it would be terrifying to be buried alive.

  10. Caves are cook, but kind of claustrophobic. We have Cave of the Winds near us. 40 degrees? Brrr - but then again, it's 46 at my house right now:)

    Good luck on shopping Woven!

  11. I've been there! Wow! I was like...twelve or thirteen. I should take my kids there.

    Feel better soon, David!

  12. PUMPKIN FLAVORED EVERYTHING!!!!!!! It's what I had for breakfast, LOL...

And I LOVE the pics... That place looks beyond magical...

  13. Neat! It's definitely good to get out and go discover something new once in a while.

  14. Oh, I love caves! I try to hit every single one in the area, when we're on vacation. Hmmm... guess I'll have to head there too!

  15. LOVE your pics. We have lots of caves here in Missouri. Jessie James and his brothers used to hide out in them and hide their loot. Sure there's a story there too.

I'm suffering from the worst cold right now - I'm home sick. Can't really do much. It does set you back, but I'm glad you're feeling better.

  16. I've been to that cave, super fun! And I'm glad to here Woven is back out there :)

  17. Venturing inside a cave like that could be the source of a lot of possible story ideas.

  18. Have you ever been on a coal mine tour? My family did one this summer, and it had a lot of common with a cave tour ... except for the stories of all the underpaid and under-valued workers who had no choice but to work in those cold, dark depths for 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, despite an appalling mortality rate.

At least spelunkers get to do it for fun, huh?

    1. I would totally love to check out a coal mine, or any mine for that matter. All I've seen is an open pit mind (granted, the largest in the world). :)

  19. Looks like a very pretty place. It's great to see new places when given the chance.

    Good luck on the queries!

  20. "Pumpkin flavored everything" sounds so ominous! What was that bacon stuff? Weird.

  21. Dear Horse Whisperer-friend of mine,

First falling off said horse, and now walking down caves via old wooden slats... you need to be more careful

(OK, I sound like an adult... enough of that!!!)

You are, of course, spot on... anything that gets us out of the comfort zone does get the creativity flowing... in this noggin anyway :)

    Cheers :)

  22. I've only been in one cave but it was awesome. I agree that experiencing stuff like that is cool and gets your brain going.

Awesome that you're shopping your manuscript around.

  23. Wow, those are awesome pics. I'd love to see a cave one day. The closest I've got so far is short coal tunnel. And, considering how much I like adding caves to my books, I could always count it as a research, couldn't I?

  24. That looks like a great place. We took the kids to Craters of the Moon in Idaho last year and that was quite an experience. I've since used the landscape as an inspiration for a scene in my WiP. I love caves too.

  25. Just now getting back to you - sorry, almost two hundred in the blogfest! Sorry you missed it. Think this one was the most epic. Think next time I'll need some serious help though. And think December scares me now!

  26. You are so right about checking out new places. It's good for the soul.

  27. I like pumpkin in pies, cookies and bread and that's about it.
I've never been in a cave but it's on my list.

  28. Checking out the caves. Shivering in the cold...but capturing some gorgeous pics of nature at its dark beauty.

    Very cool.

Glad to hear you're shopping WOVEN around. Wishing you the best and can't wait to read that "it's finally happened..." blog post :-)

  29. Yay David, good luck with the querying!

And I LOVE caves. Someday I want to set a book in a cool cave somewhere. Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds really neat!

  30. This looks amazing. My ten year old has been begging me to take him to a cave or caverns. I can see a scary story brewing inside. Good luck with querying.
