Recap: Write Here In Ephraim and a Race!

Apparently, there's a free writers conference in Ephraim, Utah: Write Here in Ephraim. And it was a blast! Lots of authors with a good sized crowd. This is its second year. If I had known, I would've gone to the first one. I'm actually an alumni from Snow College, so it was a good excuse to drive down to the old stomping grounds and relive a few fond memories. One of my novels was written entirely in their library - it was sad to see it's been converted into classrooms since. At least I ran into a few friends who helped cheer me up!

Julie Wright, Cyndy M. Hogan, and Ali Cross

There were more than plenty presentations to choose from, an author Q & A, and generous giveaways. All wrapped into one free conference. Karen Hoover and Elizabeth Mueller joined us at Roy's afterward - what I think is the best pizza place in the state.

And to think StoryMakers and CONduit are just around the corner. I'll be hitting those two ... too. So. If you happen to show up, we should hang out. Totally!

Check this action! Our new member this week is Welcome to the blog. Glad you joined us!

Update: No success recovering some documents. Thankfully I didn't lose most of my rewrite (thank you, backups), but my latest two chapters disappeared. Bummer. As much as I love Dragon's, I'm taking it as a sign that something else wants to be worked on more.

And so, I'm having a race: brainstorming a MG series and polishing 50K of an Adult Fantasy I shelved - whichever one I catch up to first is what I'll work on next. Help me out - pick a team to cheer for!

  • Team MG Fantasy

Have a great week everyone! Let's up that word count!

I'm David, and REAL men wear aprons!

  2. Great to know you have so many conferences in Utah! I wish we had that in Toronto. Well, rather, I wish my friends from Utah were Toronto friends. :)

Glad you had fun at the conference. And hope you have a great week. ;0)

  5. The conference was FREE?!! That is awesome. I wish the hubs even cooked enough to need his own apron. *grin*

Great post as always, David. You always make me laugh with those random comments at the end.

  6. I wish I could have gone to Ephraim. That would have been fun, and I'm glad to see more stuff happening down south. But I have to drive to Cedar for a conference this week and my back won't take two trips this close.

  7. Wish I was in Utah. It's a very writer-friendly state.

Sucks about trying to recover some lost documents. I've lost a bunch of stuff too. Wish I could get some of it back.

  8. You are the conference king, DPK. I'm 99 % sure I'm going to SCBWI in LA again this year which I'm stoked about. (Yes, I travel to conferences but don't go to my Utah ones? I'm crazy.) And team MG! Guess I'm losing, LOL. :D

  9. Team MG all the way. Utah seriously has some great conference opportunities. Vegas has like 2! And they are both outrageously expensive!

  10. I don't think there is a single conference you don't know about! Wish I could have made that one. Sounds wonderful!

  13. I always forget that these are going on. I need to start putting things down in a planner or something. My life gets so hectic sometimes.

  15. Don't you hate it when that happens?

I voted for the adult fantasy (I have a hard time reading MG/YA).

  18. Wahoo that you went to this conference! It was a real shocker to me that a conference actually went by that I couldn't go to. I'm a writer's con maniac & boy is it driving me nuts that I couldn't make it to this one. But I'll be at the League of Utah Writers Spring Workshop in Provo this Sat and LDStorymakers the first week of May and then CONduit at the end of May! Wahoo!

I'm going bonkers trying to decide which book you should work on! Right now I'm reading THE LORD OF THE RINGS (THE TWO TOWERS) for the first time. Yes, I know - crazy me, never read it before. So your adult fantasy would be fantastical in my book. But I also enjoy reading MG Fantasy, like Jessica Day George's TUESDAYS AT THE CASTLE on my bookshelf that I'm dying to read! So it's a tie! Don't shoot me for being zero help!
