Tuesdays at Castle Glower are Princess Celie's favorite days. That's because on Tuesdays the castle adds a new room, a turret, or sometimes even an entire wing. No one ever knows what the castle will do next, and no one-other than Celie, that is-takes the time to map out the new additions. But when King and Queen Glower are ambushed and their fate is unknown, it's up to Celie, with her secret knowledge of the castle's never-ending twists and turns, to protect their home and save their kingdom.

We've been fans of Jessica Day George for years, so it's no wonder that this beginning of a new series made its way into our home. I didn't get to read it right away. My wife claimed first dibs. She wouldn't let me have it.
This was an especially fun MG read, provided with a rare instance of a building that acts like a character of its own. It practically puts Harry Potter's moving staircases to shame. I took notes as I read, since this is the kind of fantasy I enjoy writing. With strong characters and a plot that twists and turns just as much as the castle does, I dub this novel a worthy (and quick) read!

What are you reading?
I'm David, and I can read Kindles on PC? Sweet!
Sounds so great! I didn't know Jessica did MG. I'm going to have to pick it up. ;)
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm reading I'm not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells. It's pretty good.
wow that DOES sound like an interesting book. I'll have to see if my library has it.
ReplyDeleteWow. I haven't read a MG novel since Harry Potter. This sounds right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteJust finished the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire. It was a slow beginning, but picked up the pace after the first 100 pages and was a pretty good book.
Sounds fun, I'll have to check it out. :)
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds so great David! I'd love to read it with my kids. So glad you shared. I just finished CROSSED, and I'm doing a little critique work and writing before I pick up my next book. Can't decide which one it should be. Probably Milo. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very fun book! I love when places or buildings are characters too.
ReplyDeleteAny fantasy book about a castle is fun to me! I also appreciate a smart girl working to find clues to save the day.
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many good things! I really want to read it :)
ReplyDeleteI just bought 10 new books on my Kindle last night :) The first on my list is a Sci-fi (a genre I don't normally read, so I don't know quite what to expect) but was recommended to me by one of my beta-readers. It's 'The Dark Lady' by Mike Resnick.
ReplyDeleteI also bought one of Jessica Day George's books, "Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow", because of the similarities to the story I'm currently working on... I've never read her before, so I'm looking forward to that as well :) Good to know you're a fan!
Hi, thanks for following my blog, I'm now following yours too.
ReplyDeleteI've heard such great things about this book. It's on my list.
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI about the HP moving staircases . . . that a movie device (they aren't in the book) to account for the kids getting lost in the the first film.
This sounds like a lovely book! I've never run across this author before. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book. I'm currently reading Shatter Me. Wow. Great book so far.
ReplyDeleteI think it's been middle grade since I read a middle grade. Wait, does middle grade imply middle school? Wow, it's been so long it was Jr. High for me.
ReplyDeleteOh, and reading Jessica Bell's String Bridge right now.
So the castle just grows and grows and grows? How big is this thing? And is the side reflective of the outside? I wonder if it's a commentary on obesity in kids? You know...if you aren't careful, you'll keep growing and growing and pretty soon you'll be so big that people get lost around you...
ReplyDeleteoh this sounds like a fun read. I love the cover.
ReplyDeleteMy niece loves this stuff.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is seriosly cool awesomeness to read kindle editions on PC.
ReplyDeleteAs you started describing thise story, I immediately thought of the ever changing stairs at Hogwarts.
I'm intrigued and will add this to my TBR list.
The synopsis reminds me of a book by Diana Wynne Jones (I may not have spelt that all correctly). The book is from 'Howl's Moving Castle' series, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of the book! Anyway, 'Tuesdays at the Castle' sounds like a good book. If I see it in the library,I'll have to recommend it to my sisters.
ReplyDeleteI read another book by Jessica Day George and really enjoyed it. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI just finished an ARC of Seeing Cinderalla by Jenny Lundquist, another middle grade book. I loved it. I'm be interviewing Jenny and giving it away in March if you're interested.
I've heard good things about that book. I'll have to add it to the list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. Book sounds good. I've been jumping from genre to genre lately, hoping to become a well-rounded writer. (That's the plan anyway) I must put his one on my list to read. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds like a wonderful story. Thanks for letting us know about it.
ReplyDeleteSounds really fun! I am starting a middle grade fantasy in a couple months or so.
ReplyDeleteThis one is on my nightshelf right now, and I'm about 15 pages from finishing. I've really enjoyed it, and was excited to see it featured here :)
ReplyDeleteOMG: blogger let me post a comment here. Its been ages!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an interesting MG read. Something maybe my granddaughter would like.
Favorite dragon? Ruth, from Ann McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series.
.......dhole
I haven't read this yet, but I want to. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI want to read this book so bad! It sounds absolutely adorable. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteIt was a snow day yesterday, and I read the whole thing out loud to my kids. Even my 13 year old boy slunk into the room after a while. Everyone loved it. I was hoarse, but happy!
