The A to Z of WOVEN Characters: J is for Jilia!

I dedicate this A to Z Challenge to Tina Downey, one of the A to Z Challenge founders and one of the brightest bloggers who sadly left us last year. Harder still, she was in a secret support group that I'm part of. The best way I can honor Tina, who was excited about and never had the opportunity to read my debut, I've teamed up with Father Dragon to present short bios and character portraits from Woven. I'll write the bios and all art is created by Al Diaz. I hope you enjoy this visual tribute to our friend, Tina.

J is for Jilia

Arguably Nels's most devoted friend (and self-proclaimed squire), Jilia is a bright young girl with short brown hair and eyes. She won't put up with any flak. Being raised in a pear orchard by her father and five older brothers, Jilia is often mistaken as a boy, and she can hit harder than most. She wants nothing more than to see Nels become the knight he's always wanted to be.

  2. What a fun character! She sounds great.

So sorry to hear about your friend Tina. We have lost a few friends along the way, and that's always tough. Tributes are such a great way to honor those who are no longer with us.

  5. If I had five older brothers, I think I would have to hit harder than most, too. ;)

  8. Hi David - Jilia sounds a real tomboy with a fearsome punch ... I wouldn't mind being raised in a pear orchard! Father Dragon's picture depicts her exactly .. cheers Hilary

  15. I actually felt bad for Jilia seeing as she had feeling for Nels.

  16. I pictured her looking like an older Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird. So Al's drawing is pretty spot on for me.
