IWSG: Full Editing Mode and A New Submission!

Need A Little Support? Thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh, the Insecure Writer's Support Group gives bloggers a monthly chance to express their concerns, worries, and insecurities without fear of reprisal. It's a seriously big group now, and with well over 300 participants, it shows no signs of slowing down! I'd like to thank Alex for keeping this group going for so long, as it has proved wonderful in the supporting of fellow authors and the revealing of needed and sound advice.

My apologies if you've already visited and saw my unfinished post. I usually sent my post up early and finish them the night before they go live. Alas, I was struck by a fever late afternoon yesterday and crashed super early. Fevers tend to make me forget stuff ...

I'm not much better this morning, so I'll keep it super short.

Aside from my health today, I have little to be insecure about. Or is this true? I've been in full-editing mode for a while now, and I love it! It's given me a taste of what being a full-time writer feels like. Been polishing first 100 pages of a new WOVEN book with awesomeness. I'm basically double employed right now, and it's only a matter of time to see if these late nights will pay off. So, getting to the heart of the post, my zombie novel I've told you about is on submission!

This is my first time submitting a solo project with an agent. And it's a different experience going about the process without a co-author, so there is that lingering insecurity that publishers won't bite. The zombie market is saturated at the moment, so let's hope that the angle I applied is unique enough to generate some interest.

At the same time, I'm a little too feverish to be fully insecure, let alone aware of my surroundings, so I'm going to go take it easy.

Until next time, keep the sick bay fully stocked!

How do you juggle life and full-editing mode? How do you keep calm when your work goes on submission? Is that a pink elephant?

I'm David, and yeah, no, can't think of anything witty today...

With the success of Woven, you'll get lots of hits on that zombie book.

    1. Yikes! :( Sorry to hear you're sick. I know all about double-employment: the woes, the joy, the pride. :) All good things and a wonderful challenge. Best of luck, David!

  3. I would have guessed with the release of your book that you'd have pages and pages of insecurities to tell us about this month. Be sure to tell us all about them next month!

  4. I absolutely love editing. I try to do my writing/revising while the kids are in school. Who can think with two teenage zombies in the house eating all the food and a five-year-old princess singing songs??!! That's great that you are co-authoring!

  5. Sorry your sick! I hope you feel better soon.

I used to like editing, and I guess I still do when I do the first round, but right now I'm revising with beta readers and it's taking a toll on me.

Good luck with your zombie novel!

  6. Sometimes it's good to take things in steps. You 've had the taste of being a co-author, now you're ready for your solo flight. Good luck with the edits.

  7. Congrats that your book is on submission.

When I'm in full edit mode, that's about the only thing that happens. Housework and food be darned.

  8. Hope you're feeling better, David. I like the confidence I'm hearing! Yeah, editing can be tough, but I really like it. You're reworking your stuff to make it the best it can possibly be. Good luck to you!

  10. It's always rotten to be sick. Sorry. Hope your submission is a success because no matter how sick you are, you'll feel great.

  13. You're brilliant! Everyone always wants to know how to query without the gut churning angst. All we need to do is get so sick we just don't care. You may laugh, but deep in the query trenches this actually sounds like a good idea.

  14. Ugh. Submission is the worst! We can be sub buddies because I'm there too. :) Just keep busy, write something new and focus on that. Or try to. Haha. The first few weeks are the hardest and then even though it will still be at the back of your mind, you won't want to check your e-mail every second of the day anymore. :) Good luck! And feel better soon!

  15. Hey, David.

Feel better! I know I have the sniffles today. I pumped myself with coldeze three days ago, so I cut it off at the knees. Returning to frigid Chicago after a month of semi warm weather doesn't agree with me too much.

CONGRATS on the submission and rewrites. You are a man on a mission. All the best!

  16. Hope your submission is accepted while your body rejects and throws off whatever bug you have!

  18. Feel better - sickness sucks :( But yay for submission!

  19. I've heard so many disparaging comments about writing query letters and waiting for agents and publishers to respond, that I'm giving serious thought to self publish. Hell, I've even thought about printing several hundred copies and putting up a table at the local farmer's market. Get well soon, David. Blessings.

  21. I can imagine you are missing that partner now. I am sure your next book will be a success. I also enjoy editing/revising. That first draft is so hard to get all on the page.

Good luck; and I hope you feel better soon.

  22. Hope you feel better soon. Good luck with the zombie submission. I'm guessing you'll at least get people to look at it more since you're a published author.

  23. Oh no. Feel better. There's nothing worse than being sick, except being sick and having things to do. Good luck with your submission. I still like zombies...although I'm not a publisher. Well, I think you'll do great :)

  25. You do sound pretty busy! Feel better!

I'm sure your submission will go well! :)

  26. Take it easy and get healthy soon! I have been unagented and sold several books to small presses. Now I have an agent and she is submitting for me this spring. It is hard in some ways to be hands off but at the same time a relief because it frees up more time for working on new projects. I hope your submission goes very well!

  27. Sounds cool:) Best of luck on submitting your newsest writing project!

  29. Sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Hop you're felling better. The solo projects sounds good and with the sucess of your other works, even without a co-author, I'm sure you'll find many interested.

  34. I did think your post ended abruptly when I visited last week. LOL. I figured you were so busy in revision/editing mode that the rest of reality faded into the background. I know that happens to me! (It's a wonder my family puts up with me.)

Hope you feel better soon, and good luck on your new submission!
