A To Z Challenge: The X-Files "Theme Song"

For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.

I never had the chance to get into The X-Files when I was younger (it came on way past my bedtime), but that didn't stop me from catching up with the adventures of agents Mulder and Scully on the SyFy channel, and digging the music by Mark Snow. Aliens, monsters, and paranormal are difficult to believe, but man ... This show made me want to!

There will be a new track tomorrow. Thank you for stopping by!

I'm David, and "you have to be willing to see ..."

  5. I saw this on Alex's blog! Well kind of. He didn't talk about the music.

  6. X files only touched the tip of what may be hiding in those files. These will one day become our legends of the Earth exploratory era. (they could be highly amusing to alien visitors).

  7. This was one of the best shows on television. At least in the beginning of the series. Towards the end, not so much.

  8. The theme music is perfect for this show. Just spooky enough and still a delicious listening experience.

  10. If you had taught my senior class, you would find X-Files easier to believe! :-) Robin is right: the theme was just right for the show.

  11. I hadn't had the chance to get into The X Files either. I haven't even seen the movie that Alex mentioned in his post. The music is awesome! I love the creepy, alien feel it has. :)

  12. The X-Files' theme is so creepy! But I love it.

  13. Cool tune. Feels like modern shows don't even bother with a credit sequence these days.

  14. I really enjoyed the more practical approach an official and known investigative agency gave the subject matter. The aliens were still rather far-fetched and impractical themselves, but it was much less sensational than most current approaches to the otherworldly.

  15. That was some pretty powerful music. I had friends who were really into that show in the 90s. They even had viewing parties every Sunday night.

  16. Somehow I figured this had to be the song for today. Ah, memories...

  17. The X-files theme is one of those songs that you know even if you've never watched the show. I've only seen a couple of episodes, but I thought the spectral, off-beat intro was perfect.

  21. X-Files intensive day with the letter X. I never watched this show, although, I think I would like it. The theme song is kind of creepy.

  22. I still just love this show, even so many years later. It was fun to see it in a few places today, and to see each person talk about it totally differently :)

  23. I was totally into X-files when it aired! Agent Mulder was definitely one of my biggest fictional character crushes ever. I had to giggle uncomfortably when you said it came on past your bedtime. Funny how generational differences are highlighted by childhood tv shows. :)

  24. Definitely one of the most memorable pieces of music ever, particularly music linked to a TV show.

  25. This was almost my X. I have action figures of Mulder and Scully on my desk, and confess to being Scully on more than one Halloween. My kids made up lyrics to the theme: "Now it's time for X-Fiiles, uh huh." Songwriters they're not, but it always cracks me up when they sing it.

  26. I like both the music and the show! I haven't watched all the episodes and I'm not sure why . . . I have to get on it! lol

  27. I loved the X-files because it was an excuse to stay up past my bedtime!

  28. I imagine many did X-Files and/or X-men today... uh... for "X" (myself included), if not X-Ray or the like :-)

Never watched this as it aired?! Oh goodness, this was yet another family "together" time show for me. Eventually the days shifted? Or I wasn't able to be around to watch it as episodes aired, so my grandmother would record them for me.

I believe I still have a ton of VHSs with entire seasons recorded on them!

Great series, but admittedly, I lost interest around the point the original cast faded from the spotlight. I was definitely on board for the episodes they were in, though.

And while I absolutely love the first movie, the second not so much :-(
