A To Z Challenge: Ender's Game "The Final Test"

For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.

Ender's Game didn't get a lot of love in theaters (there was a lot against it, which had nothing to do with the actual movie), but they sure found an excellent composer in Steve Jablonsky. You may have heard his scores from the Transformers movies, and others. Rest assured, when I need a track to accompany an action scene, this will do!

I hope you enjoyed the music. Thank you for stopping by!

I'm David, and why can't the enemy's gate be up?

  1. Not surprised that would be your choice for E.
The movie did struggle on its own though, as the coldness put off a lot of people.

  2. Now that's some thought provoking action music. Yeah Enders Game was a great movie and I guess great minds think alike eh David?

  3. I know there was a lot of controversy around the film, and a lot of people boycotted it. I seriously considered it, but the book has meant so much to me that I couldn't miss it - and I'm glad I went. I loved the film, and the score!

  4. He is a great composer. The movie I enjoyed, never having read the book. People expect too much of a movie sometimes.

  5. I didn't see Ender's Game, but this score is amazing! Gosh, where was this when I was writing a battle scene? It would've been perfect!

  6. I have to confess I did not see the film--but the music is amazing--makes you wonder what other treasures are out there!

  7. No interest in seeing Ender's Game, but this is the best music yet!

  9. The way this piece builds up is somewhat reminiscent of Vangelis' Blade Runner. Nice! I'll have to check this soundtrack out.

  10. This song is powerful. Me and my son really enjoyed watching Ender's Gamer together it is a shame the movie didn't do better.

  11. The movie wasn't half bad...and this score is the bomb. Loved the music you shared. Happy A-Zing! ♥

  12. Yeah, the score is okay. I'm super picky and my favorites are Two Steps From Hell, and right now I'm trending HUGE with the Skyrim soundtracks. Such good stuff.

  13. I didn't like the film, but the music is beautiful.

  14. Not seen the film yet! Want to read the book first but love this score! X

  15. It is beautiful music and I love knowing a couple of things about movies: who wrote the score, and who did the editing. These things are so essential to make a movie great. I never saw this, but we do love Sci Fi here!!! Thanks for sharing this!

  16. I may have been one of those people not giving this movie any love for reasoning outside the actual movie >.< I don't know. I figured I can find some alternate ways to go about watching the movie. Sadly I have yet to read the books either, so I wasn't as fanboyish about the whole thing. Maybe made it easier for me to fall into focusing on other aspects surrounding it.

That all aside, this is an awesome song.

Are all of these in a writing playlist of yours then? That would be pretty sweet. Back in the day (12 years ago or so), when I would actually write, a lot of the music revolved around musical scores and orchestral pieces (And NIN...). Now my Spotify is split into WiP playlists and contain a wider variety of music (though, still containing NIN more often than not), but some scores like this have fallen to the wayside. May be time to remedy that!

  17. I love the Ender's Game soundtrack! It's great for writing. And the movie was pretty good too.

  18. Now this is a theme I never thought about doing, which totally surprises me since I'm a sucker for a good movie score. Kudos to you for giving some oft under-appreciated music its due! :-)

And, alas, I have yet to see Ender's Game, though I have every intention in doing so (loved the book when I read it years ago)... having a little piece of it here just makes me all the more eager to see it.

  19. Yep, that would certainly work in an action movie. I accidentally had the volume turned up on my computer and just about blasted my eardrums right out of my skull. Sure they get my heart pumping, though.

  20. It's all about the music… ;)

Still haven't seen this yet! Loved the book, of COURSE.

  21. I usually like the books better than I like the movies, but I haven't done either for Ender's Game yet. Maybe I'll just settle for listening to the music. So many books, so little time.....

  22. I LOVE this soundtrack and listen to it all the time!

  23. I've read the book but not seen the movie. I just put that on my list of movies to watch. Will see if its on Netflix tomorrow.

  24. Great theme. I'll have to go back and check out the earlier posts. And will have to wait till I'm at .... (sssshhhhh) work ... to listen. My internet allowance ran out so I'm trying to limit the extremity of my next internet bill till it resets. ;)

  25. I liked the movie. It wasn't perfect but that is a hard book to make into a movie.

  26. Never really found the book very appealing, would have helped if there was an actual reason to put children in charge of the war effort. The soundtrack is stirring stuff.

  27. I didn't see this movie, so I don't have anything to convey on that. I will say that, in general, I am "anxious" before I see a movie that is based on a book I really like. There have been enough truly terrible movies made from books that I always pause. I think John Grisham's The Firm starring Tom Cruise stands out in my mind as The Worst. Ironically, one of the best was Interview With The Vampire also starring Tom Cruise. Even though I think Cruise is a nut in real life, he usually makes good movies. My problem with The Firm was the ending of the movie vs. the ending of the book. More generalized issues is that they often cast people that just don't look right or sound right in your mind. You envisioned the character completely differently and it is hard to wrap your brain around this person on the screen.

The music has been running throughout this very long comment. I like it. It would be excellent background for a dramatic scene or an action scene. It feels tense. Something is coming!

  28. I've read all the Ender books, and I'm not that anxious to see the movie. Something usually gets lost in the translation to film. I will likely buy it if it becomes available, only because Harrison Ford is in it. Some of the stories later in the series would transfer to the screen if handled well and would give us something other than same old regurgitated re-do's. Good luck with the rest of the A to Z.

  29. Great music! I have to say the ending of the movie was disappointing to me.

  30. Oh, that's lovely. I never saw the movie, but the soundtrack is nice.

  34. Argh! I can't listen to this one. The computer I'm using today at the Internet Cafe has a busted headset. :-) I'll check this one out next time.

  35. I saw the movie twice. I guess it was fairly good for dragons. I happened to like it very much and haven't even read the book yet.

  36. I really enjoyed the movie! Ender's Game was part of my E blog as well. I really need to read the book!

  37. Isn't that sad. I've never heard of it. I wonder if it's on Netflix?

  38. Aah, Ender's Game: the movie. I HATED it-- they took too many liberties that steered clear of what the book(s) are really about. Like they glossed over the fact that he was a third...and that everything in the movie happened over the span of a year...don't get me started ;)

And it was SO CLEAR they were trying to make it into a viable movie franchise.

    Okay, I'll stop now. heh.
