A To Z: Castle In The Sky "The Destruction of Laputa"

For my first A to Z Challenge ever, I'm highlighting a favorite track from various science fiction and fantasy movies, games, and TV shows. Feel free to press play and listen while you visit other A to Z participants.

I have to tip my space helmet to Joe Hisaishi for the incredible scores he comes up with. "The Destruction of Laputa" from Castle in the Sky is among my favorites. I don't know what it is about inaudible vocals, but they always get to me. It was this and other films that introduced me to Anime, of which I've found many great shows (and tracks) since.

I hope you enjoyed the music. Thank you for stopping by!

I'm David, and whatever you do, don't say "Balse" (oops!)!

  3. I love your theme to and Laputa: Castle in the Sky is one of my favourite animes. The scores are beautiful and add to the enjoyment of the film. This is my first A - Z challenge too and my theme is Beloved Books from my childhood. I hope you have a great month xx

  4. Laputa's my favorite Miyazaki film (wondering if you saw the Wind Rises and if yes your opinion?), have you seen the Gorillaz' Feel Good Inc video? Obviously a homage. ;) Or Leiji Matsumoto's Interstella 5555? Genius.

My favorite game soundtrack is probably the one to Panzer Dragoon Saga, and, a VERY close second, the soundtrack to Journey, by Austin Wintory. Been a while since a game made me tear up like that at the end.

  5. This is so going on my writing playlist. I came to anime through lesser quality stuff, but found my way to the good stuff eventually.

  16. I'm the same way about inaudible vocals. Reminds me of that ending scene in the movie Glory.

I had me kids watch this movie, and they loved it!

  18. So many gems in the anime soundtrack/score universe! I've found some favorites among Final Fantasy, Escaflowne, and Genocyber. It's also paved the path to some great game scores, such as Fatal Frame and Silent Hill. I can never get enough music. Great topic for the challenge! :)

  19. Ah, that was so nice! I have to admit, it is funny when people think they know the words to the song, and are singing loud and proud, only to get the words wrong, because they never heard them correctly in the first place.

  22. Oh yeah, this song. I love this song and pretty much every song from every one of Hayao Miyazaki's films. Castle in the Sky sits somewhere around #8-12 on my list of favorite movies (behind other Miyazaki films mostly).

  31. I think I was confusing this with Howl's Moving Castle. This is a great track and makes me want to check out this anime.

I've been an anime fan for a long time. Starting with Akira and Vampire Hunter D. From there I've experienced a good handful, but I know I am missing huge gaps of great anime.

Thanks for sharing this, man! It's great :)

  32. I haven't seen much anime, but the stuff I've seen I've loved. Namely Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. :)

    This song is lovely!
