Thursday Scores: A Window to the Past

Maybe this is telling of my age, but my favorite composer is none other than the great John Williams. I knew I wanted to pick one from him sooner or later, but which one? Which of the 10 GBs of his music that I have would make a worthy introduction? The answer came in the form of the wind, one of my favorite pieces of recent years ...

A Window to the Past: by John Williams
From the film: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Such a great track that sets a morose, yet adventurous mood. This is also the last Harry Potter film that Mr. Williams composed music for. This week, I'd like to tag this track on Leigh Covington, who is not only a huge Harry Potter fan (who isn't?), but whose writing reminds me of this same longing and deep secrets, yet to be discovered.

I hope this track brings you the inspiration that you are looking for!

I'm David, and does anyone have a time-turner I can borrow?

  1. I bought his greatest hits 1969-1999 last weekend. So many iconic film scores: Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, ET, Jurassic Park...on and on it goes. It's amazing.

  3. I listen to a Harry Potter soundtrack when I need to fire my imagination. I don't know who to credit for "Room of Requirement" from the 5th movie, but it's great, too. As for John Williams... nobody does it better.

  4. Hi, David,

WHAT an AMAZING coincidence. I just happened to be listening to that track and the other HP music today as I am writing. TOTALLY inspirational.

Nice to know the composer behind the music.

  5. This music reminds me of a flute orchestra I saw recently. Very neat but nearly overwhelming (the orch, not this music).

  7. Beautiful piece. We took a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry potter back in November. My husband had such a great time there, he was sold when my daughter talked him into coming home and watching all the movies (1 each Saturday). We just wrapped them all up and I am ready to watch them again. I love HP!
