What is this, Dave? Another Anime series? A Romance, at that?!
Yep. Another Anime - and this one is a romance. We were curious, checked it out, and it turned out to be pretty good, so we watched the rest of it and were not disappointed. It even surprised me how invested I was in the characters, more than all the Jane Austen movies my wife loves to watch. Why did this ring true for me? The theme of forbidden love, man. Forbidden love, kind of like when you are told you can't do something, but that only makes you want it more? This show totally succeeds in that department, en mass!
I found the animation simple, yet refreshing, with a wide array of characters that are easy to like and easy to hate, and yet I found myself routing for most of them, even William's jerk of a dad. What really drew me in, though, was the way this show executed buildup and did a fine job at handling so many characters, each with their own story. I even got a little teary-eyed during season 2 (don't judge).
The only couple of downsides is the first season is a little slow, but it picks up near the end, and each disc had only three episode on it. Three! That's not enough! There is also no English dubbing (which is crazy funny, because, this takes place in England, right?), but I tend to feel smarter after reading subtitles to foreign films. Same deal. No big. Now, Season 2 is a roller coaster in comparison. Dramabomb!
So, yeah. T'was a good show, so I recommends it all yous guys! It's so totally loaded with tropes, too. Have fun finding them all!
I'm David, and who wants to take a trip to the Crystal Palace?
