Aspiring Advice: What I Coulda/Shoulda Done ...

Normally, I have a post to go with these columns, but a small group of young, ambitious, aspiring writers have stolen it. Yep. Swiped it right from under my keyboard - talented little geniuses. Word on the street is they're holding my post hostage at their new website, a blog designed specifically for gathering and helping fellow teen writers.

Led by Jackson Porter, Matt Hayes, Morgan Ramsey, Nick Hight, and Jared Peterson, this place is bound for awesomeness, and I'm thrilled to say that they've given me the honor of being their first guest, with a post about what I coulda/shoulda done as a teen writer. You may have heard the story before, but I spiced it up - just a smidge.

Check it out on Saturday, the 5th [Magical portal link here]!

On another note, I finally have a plan! This starship of a laire needed some serious reevaluation and a stronger need for representing all things science fiction and fantasy. I have a schedule now, ready to launch on Monday. That way, you will know what to expect from this place so you can tune in for whichever posts fit your fancy (it will help with the fatigue problem and I'll get some actual writing done, too!).

Have a great, productive, and warm weekend, everyone!

I'm David, and fruit-flavored teas are tastefully addicting ...

  1. What a fantastic idea. I'm going to check it out and bookmark it. I have a 17-year-old who has more writing talent in her little pinkie than I've ever had.

  2. See.... Like I said about five seconds ago on your previous post... it will all fall into place!

Congrats on the interview... I may just have to drop by these talented teens tomorrow.

Have a great day and weekend!

  3. What a great idea. I checked out their blog, and I must say, they are really focused on their writing -- much more focused than I was at their age, even though I was writing poetry and stories. But novels? At ten and twelve and fifteen? Wow! I'm so impressed.

And it really IS a good way to tap into your audience, David. Hats off to you for thinking of this.

  8. Fruit-flavored teas are awesome!

It's great that you're "lending" your post to teen writers! They really do need a good place to be inspired and have fun with other teen writers.

The schedule is good as well. I'm thinking of drumming one up for my blog as well. Looking forward to seeing what you have in store!

PS: Thanks for stopping by my blog, and for the warm wishes on my new writing project!

    Best,

    Alexandra~

  9. How exciting that you are reaching out and that it is being reciprocated by young people who obviously know of your presence and impact here in Utah among writers.

You are extremely active in every writer get together. I need to improve that. I wimp out easily if it's too cold or too late or if I didn't get enough sleep...

I will go and see your guest post right now.

  10. I have an almost-16 year old who is fanatical about her writing and seeking critique partners. I am going to send her over there, pronto.

Thanks for sharing, and I'm heading over to look right now.

  19. I like peach flavoured tea :) At least, I like peach flavoured iced tea. The teen writers website looks like a great place for young aspiring authors to go for encouragement and support and of course important tips and information. I'll have to check it out :D
