Post: My August Rush, New Members, And An Update

At longfully last, I'm back! *cheers and cruller-giving commences*

And not just for new posts, but as a writing community member. I look forward to reading and commenting on hundreds of blogs again.

I've missed it. For reals.

Last month was a rush, my own August rush (ever seen that movie? - it's a good one), and as much as I loved working on Woven, I'm SOOOO glad it's finished. We spent a lot of time on the first 3rd in two months, probably revising each chapter about ten times, until we nailed every single character and the overall presentation, just the way we wanted it. Then, in July, we zipped through the rest, five times each, making sure our new foundation was consistent throughout. To our happiness, it was. Mostly. Then in August, we finally wrapped up the edits and read the whole thing, three times more, looking for specifics each time. Woven is now at a place where Michael and I honestly have no idea how this can be any better.

Once our Beta readers get back to us, we'll make our final changes and start shopping it again.

And that's why I've been an unregular blogger. My bad, but now I'm back and plan on staying permanent. I'm also giving myself a full hour, ever day, to do nothing but read and comment on blogs, because I want to. Now that it's scheduled, and my window to draft new posts, it'll get done, and it won't cut into precious writing time.

Now that I'm back, for good this time, it's high time I gave an epic Shout-Out to those who have joined us since I went AWOL:

MoBrya (blog?)
and

Welcome to The Cosmic Laire - enjoy the trippy awesomness!

Update: Now that Woven is practically finished, what's my plan now? This zombie idea I've had for a while is going into full force, starting now, and I'm going to push myself to have a first draft done before The Walking Dead Season 3 begins (nice incentive, right?). After that, the other MG book I mentioned that's about food, hopefully I'll have a first draft of that done by the new year. The only thing that will keep me from these goals is if Woven gets picked up. Hopefully it will. If not, I'll have two new books to shop in 2013. Let's get busy!

I'm David, and how's about a big hug for your old pal, Merle?

  7. Wahoo! Finishing is such a good feeling. Way to go! I think sometimes blogging has to go on hold in favor of "the art", but welcome back, and I'm anxiously awaiting further news on Woven.

  11. Congratulations on finishing Woven.

If your short hiatus was an epic fail I dread to think what my five month break was!

  12. There's no point in having a writing blog if you're not writing! Glad things are going well, David. :)

  13. Thanks for the shout-out, David! It is so hard balancing writing and social networking, but when you do it for the enjoyment, it's so worth it, right?

  14. Congratulations on the progress! And I really like how you do shout-outs for your new followers. Might have to bring this practice to The Feather and the Rose.

The balance is hard isn't it, sometimes has to be more one way than the other. Good luck with the finishing and shopping the MS!

  18. Congratulations on all the work you did! Doesn't it feel good! I am also happy to say I whipped my current WIP into shape over August and had it ready to send to my agent right after Labor Day.

As for Merle, I screamed out loud when he appeared in the trailer. That is one face I hoped never to see again!

  25. Awesome you finished your edits. It was a great reason to cut back on blogging. And Wow! You've got really productive goals set for yourself. I wish I could produce that quickly.

  27. I wrote my first novel in a similar fashion. Revising the first third to death before writing the rest, which came so quickly because I knew the characters and theme so well. I'm glad you're back and in the full-swing of things, David. And your goals for the rest of 2012 are awesome!

  30. So awesome to get WOVEN to that point where you know, without a doubt, that it rocks to such high levels! I'm so happy for you two!

And with how busy your summer has obviously been, it makes me feel a little less guilty about being so AWOL for writing group this summer. :)
