The 4th Of July: Happy Birthday, America!

I'm taking a break from the usual blog routine to wish my country a happy birthday. We celebrate what has come since that time and my ancestors who did their part in making this country what it is today (as far back as the pilgrims, actually). There's still a long way to go, and plenty of disagreements and political tiffs to sift through, but in the long run, we'll stay on the right track, so long as we strive to uphold the right to be free.

We can ignore the past, divided, or embrace the future, together. I say let's keep working at it, my friends.

Happy Birthday, America!

I'm David, and what do you love about your country?

  1. Happy Fourth! I appreciate our freedoms. It's not perfect here, but there are so many countries that do not allow some of the things we take for granted.

  4. I love seeing everyone stand to give respect and honor to our soldiers as they go by in the parade. The MIA/POW float and the one honoring our deceased soldiers was particularly heart wrenching. We would have nothing without sacrifices like those.

    Great post, David!

  5. There are many things I love about this country, but freedom stands out. It is something that people fought and died for and is something that still need protecting today.

    Happy 4th!

  6. As a woman, one of the most amazing things about the US is the full opportunity I have to pursue the education and career I desire. We still have some work to do when it comes to equality but all over the world there are men and women who don't have the freedom I do. Sometimes I don't appreciate that nearly enough!

  8. I'm not from the US but I admire the patriotism of your people. I love my country - Australia - because of the freedom it gives its people and the multiculturalism it holds.

  10. I love that our country has electricity, is wired for internet, has food in the stores, and no wars on its own soil. I love that our country has paved roads, tall buildings, healthcare, and an education system that's decent. I love that our country has a monetary system that doesn't require me to trade one good for another. I love that our country has warm areas where I could potentially live and still have access to running water, sewer, and a garage for my car. Yeah it's pretty great.
