StoryMakers, Italian Food, Tallied Votes

It's that time of year again!

StoryMakers is fast approaching. By the looks of things, this year's occasion will be quite involved! Boot Camp and Publication Primer attendees get their own day and those coming into town the night before will likely want to grab a morsel to eat (I know I would). And as luck would have it, Provo is my backyard, so I went ahead and reserved a room at a great little establishment.

Click me for location!

This place seriously rocks and the menu won't bust your bank. Italian family owned and operated, I might add. Great food. Excellent inspiration. Awesome friends. And if you're not going to StoryMakers, you can still dine with us. I reserved enough for 30. More are welcome!

The date: Thursday, May 3rd. The time: 7 PM

Be sure to join this event on Facebook so I can give the host an accurate headcount. You might even meet a published author or an editor, too. Buon appetito!

Votes are in for which project I should work on next. It was a close race. Team MG Fantasy wins by 1 vote!

Adult Fantasy 8 vs. 9 MG Fantasy

I'm 2,000 words in already with some development left to ... develop. All I can really say about it is there's an Italian restaurant involved - and a little magic. Time to put my food service experience to good use! Looking to have a working draft ready by the end of this Summer.

Update: Aside from the MG announcement, I got nothin. There might be some exciting news soon (not for me, that I know of). I'll let you know when that happens.

I'm David, and have a "Most Excellent" week!

Who you gonna call?

  1. We had a funny conversation at a recent book discussion when we were talking about Ender's Game. Orson Scott Card is a well known LDS advocate, and that came up.

The members of my group then made a mental note of all the great science fiction/fantasy writers to either come out of Utah or are members of LDS.

    Why is that???

    1. Great question. Reading is encouraged in the LDS community (generally, from what I've seen) so it doesn't surprise me that lots of writers have sprung from this area of the west.

I grew up behind the Hollywood sign. Naturally, I wanted to be a filmmaker for the first half of my life. Decided to write novels instead. :)

  17. Hmmmm. I may have to see if I can squeeze this in. I've got so much going on what with putting my mom in a nursing home and meeting with lawyers and doctors out of state. Sigh.

  19. Italian food, meaningful conversations about books and craft, and the company of writers- how sweet is that. Unfortunately, I'm out on the West Coast. Have fun though!

  20. So sad I don't live there so I can participate. I'm amazed you let a vote decide what you're writing but yah! for a middle grade book.

  21. I'll see you at Storymakers. I'll only be there on Saturday so I'll miss the Italian food :(

I think that last picture is a metaphor for American/British relationships.

  22. Can't go wrong with Italian food, David! Careful with the pork sausages, though, they have a bite! :)
